Welcome to our July arts calendar.

The Sunflower Summer program from the Kansas Department of Tourism offers families free admission to more than 100 attractions across the state from May 25-August 11. Additionally, the Wichita Public Library has added Experience Passes to its Library of Things. Patrons may check out a free "family pack" of passes to 10 area attractions, including Old Cowtown Museum, the Wichita Art Museum, and the Kansas Cosmosphere.

As events are subject to change, we recommend you confirm details with the venue or host organization before attending. Note that most establishments will be closed on July 4.

Author Event: Hampton Sides

Sankofa is an expression in the Twi language of Ghana meaning “to go back and get it,” speaking to how understanding the past can help us move forward. “Sankofa — Tell the Story” encompasses a participatory community exhibition at the museum’s current location on Water Street, plus a temporary mural at its future location at 201 N. Main St.

Keeper Gallery place is meant to serve as an oasis for creative activity along Wichita’s riverfront. Facilitated by Harvester Arts, the aim of the project is to encourage pride and belonging while training local artists to activate underutlized spaces.

Senior Wednesday: The Power of Imagery and the Civil Rights Experience

This presentation will delve into the impact of photography on the Civil Rights Movement in the aftermath of the landmark Supreme Court case, Brown v. Board of Education, tracing the evolution of how Black individuals and communities in the U.S.  have been portrayed from historical beginnings up to the present day.
